Wild Wild West

Last week, I took an advencation to the wild wild west, specifically Jackson Hole, Wyoming(FYI adventure + vacation = advencation). Background: the boyfriend left me in December to live a dream life with hi other lover out west (skiing, obviously). Since I am so accommodating, I decided that I would take a trip and see if we could make this love triangle work. More background: I hate the cold, and the only skiing I had ever done was in icy Wintergreen last winter. Needless to say, I was a little scared and pessimistic about this whole thing. But, since I am such a loving and accommodating person, I decided to give it a go.

Anyways, the trip was amazing and relaxing and wonderful. Wyoming (and the west in general I think) is such a different place from Washington, DC. After working super long hours the last few weeks, it was so nice to do nothing besides ski, eat good food, drink good beer (PBR, clearly) and be surrounded by people who were doing the exact same and completely okay with it. Everyone I met (in the hot tub, on the ski lift, at the bars) was so chill - loving life and enjoying every minute of it - a very different attitude from here in the nation's capital. Don't get me wrong, I love the rat race of DC, but it was great to get away for a week and live a "simple" life. I guess that is the beauty of taking vacation - once you are working hard in the real world, you can really appreciate the time off.

Although there were a few (okay, maybe more than a few) curse words and one or two epic falls, I graduated from green to blue slopes and had fun while doing it! While I am no expert, I think I may be able to work with this ski relationship after all.

a new year

hello blog- remember me? yeah, its been a while. though i fully abide by Rule Number 76: No Excuses Play Like a Champion, a should at least say that busy season #2 has taken over my life and that somewhat explains the lack of blogging. anyways, not too much has been happening (as i mentioned, work = life for the time being). the holidays came and went, and suddenly i found myself in 2011.

a new year... a time for new beginnings, resolutions, etc. i personally like to make new years resolutions, and generally stick to mine. my resolution this year is to work on relationships. now, that may seem vague, but i think it is a very tangible goal.

recently, having been so absorbed with work, i have not been what i consider to be a very good friend/relative. actually, this is not just a recent thing, i dont think i have ever been very good at maintaining relationships. back in college, my high school friends and i would rarely talk while we were away at school, but when we were back at home, together, it would be as though we never were apart. this was fine, up until now. because now, there is no going home for winter break; everyone is going off in her own direction in the world. once i realized this fact, i decided that now, more than ever, it would be up to me to keep those amazing friendships i have built over the past years alive.

and the truth of the matter is, relationships are the most important thing you can acquire in life. an education may get you a job, and a job may get you money, but, as the saying goes, money dont buy happiness. cliche, i know, but oh so true.

so cheers to 2011 - out on my own, but not alone!
